Dishwashers have brought the ideal new life to countless families by automatically freshening up pots, pans, cups and dishes after a gourmet meal with your own hands. However, more than 170 years after the birth of the dishwasher, and more than 30 years after it entered the Chinese market, it has not been successfully popularised in Chinese households. Data shows that by 2020, China's dishwasher ownership is only 2 units per 100 households, and even in the relatively economically developed first-tier cities and the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta, the ownership of 100 households is only 3 units. Compared with 70 units per 100 households in Europe and the United States and 18 units per 100 households in Japan, China's dishwasher market has huge room for growth.

What is the "crux" of the failure to fully popularise dishwashers? On September 16, 2022, the first Shanghai Dishwasher Festival with the theme of "Enjoy 'Bowl' Life" was officially kicked off at Red Star Macalline Shanghai Global Home 1 Store! This annual event, which touched the whole industry, focused for the first time on dishwasher, an emerging kitchen appliance category, and brought together experts, scholars, entrepreneurs and industry experts to discuss the opportunities and development direction of the dishwasher industry and explore new consumption patterns and new modes of business.

In recent years, various national ministries and commissions as well as the Shanghai Municipal Government have repeatedly issued policies and measures to encourage home appliances to go to the countryside and to exchange old appliances for new ones. Against this backdrop, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce and the Shanghai Jiaodian Appliance Business Association are strengthening their cooperation to take the first Shanghai Dishwasher Festival as an opportunity to promote green consumption and experiential consumption, to better build a benign eco-system that empowers the whole industry, and to effectively promote industrial innovation and consumer upgrading.

On behalf of the organisers, Han Jianhua, Secretary General of Shanghai Jiaodian Electric Appliances Business Association, delivered a speech. He hoped that with the opportunity of the Shanghai Green Consumer Season and the platform of the first Shanghai Dishwasher Festival, major manufacturers would invest resources together to seize the "Golden Nine and Silver Ten" and the golden promotion period before the National Day to create a win-win situation together and work together to make the dishwasher industry bigger and stronger.

Because of the epidemic, Guo Meide, President of Aowei Cloud, was unable to attend the event in person. He brought the research report "Summary of China's Dishwasher Market Trends in 2022" to the guests by way of a video presentation. In the report, he led a review of the development of China's dishwasher industry and pointed out that China's dishwasher penetration rate is low and there is plenty of room for the future. If the future dishwasher market penetration rate can reach 10%, there will be a market demand of 40 million units and the industry scale can reach 200+ billion RMB.
